Alpine Skiing - Varsity Girls
|Date:||January 9, 2013|
Event Recap:The BSL ski season got off to a fantastic start. At Butternut on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, both boys’ and girls’ teams triumphed in the slalom race hosted by Salisbury. With Kingswood-Oxford, Trinity-Pawling, Salisbury and Berkshire in attendance, the Berkshire boys won the day and the girls, the only all-girls team at the race, took second. Due to the temperature, the conditions were wet and sticky, but our athletes adjusted accordingly and mastered the challenge. In fact, our varsity skiers took 15 of the top 20 spots. Though host Salisbury star Dan Cone grabbed first place in the individual trials, Nate Mackenzie ’14 finished second, Ian Rasmussen ’14 was third, and Captain Jackson VonZon-Borwick ‘13 took fourth, after definitively winning the first run, then nearly falling but amazingly recovering on his second run. But that was just the beginning: George Frick ’14 finished fifth, and Bryce Schuler ’15 rounded out the top six. Then came the first of the girls with Elise Chauvel ’15 in seventh and Eliza Stitcher ’16 in eighth. More boys, then, with Bryan Bohaty ’13 and Troy Bernier ’14 in ninth and tenth, respectively, then brand-new-to-Berkshire-this-week Katherine Frick ‘16, and Julia Slyer ‘14, Krissy Govertsen ’15, Caroline Slyer ’16, veteran David Watkins ’13, and Annette Key ’16 in fourteenth through eighteenth. Despite a tough first run, Emily Barclay ’15 crushed her second, climbing up to 24th overall. All in all, it was a decisively great opening to our BSL season.
