Hockey - Boys Junior Varsity vs. The Gunnery

Event Type: Regular

Date: January 15, 2014

Score:Berkshire 4 - Gunnery 3 (OT)

Event Recap:

After a solid week of practice, the Bears hit the ice on Wednesday to face their 1st competition of 2014.  The visiting Highlanders from Gunnery were up to the challenge and fought off defeat for 3 periods, but in the end, they didn’t have the wherewithal to shed Berkshire’s overtime attacks.  The Highlanders were sent home in defeat shortly into overtime giving the Bears their 1st victory of the season.

Offensively, PJ Webb once again led the attack for the Bears as he opened up with the team’s 1st and 2nd goals of the day.  Luke Amero found the back of the net for Berkshire’s crucial 3rd goal while Nick Palumbo scored the overtime goal which sent Gunnery back on a long bus ride to Washington, CT.

Once again, Calder Ryan put together a game saving performance between the pipes.  However, unlike a few of our earlier games, Calder also had the support of a more complete defensive effort by the skaters in front of him.

The Bears have the opportunity to build off of their success with 2 more games this week.  The team will be hosting Hillside on Thursday at 4:30 and then will be travelling to play the Flying Beavers of Avon on Saturday at 4pm.
