Hockey - Boys Junior Varsity vs. Salisbury School

Event Type: Regular

Date: February 13, 2013

Score:4 - 1

Event Recap:

The Bears put together their best game of the season thus far with excellent play in all areas throughout the game. Goaltender Sam Merrill '16 kept a tight seal in the crease, making tough shots look routine, and played an aggressive yet controlled 45 minutes. Starting fast against a talented Salisbury club was a must, and the Bears set a consistently uptempo pace thanks to strong play from the line of Connor Shalleck '16, P.J. Webb '15, and Gray Riatti '14, with Riatti converting on a breakaway pass from Webb in the first.

The second and third periods saw major improvements as the powerplay found success with goals coming from point shots and being converted by Will Knight '13 and Matty Wieczorek '14. There were important penalty kills throughout the game, including a 2-man down kill, defended well by Wieczorek, Hunter Reynolds '16, Johnny Grogan '14 (who had his best game of the year), and Ben Harff '15.  Joe Pezza '14 found the back of the net as well, with his scoring chances frequently generated from plays set up from linemates Wieczorek and Sam Hahn '14.

Each team member made key contributions, and the Bears look to continue their balanced attack on the road at Canterbury this weekend.
