Coming off a close loss at home against a fast and skilled Cardigan Mountain squad, the Bears looked to right the ship in their second home game against a traditionally talented and physical Avon club. The scoring was opened by Avon in the first period, and the Winged Beavers found the back of the net twice in the opening frame by capitalizing on turnovers in the defensive zone and Berkshire's inability to clear pucks away from the front of the net. The Bears' struggle to find the back of net continued into the remaining two periods, though it was not for a lack of trying - all lines were able to generate consistent scoring chances but none managed to find a way to put the puck in the net. Jared Shatkin '13 was particularly impressive on offensive zone faceoffs, allowing defensemen opportunities for point shots, while the line of P.J. Webb '15, Matty Wieczorek '14, and Sam Hahn '14 provided a consistent spark on offense. Despite outshooting Avon in every period, the Bears would ultimately be defeated 3-0 due to an empty-net goal in the remaining two minutes.
The club will look to find their first win of the season this Friday while hosting Eaglebrook.
