Basketball - Boys Junior Varsity
|Date:||February 8, 2014|
|Score:||Berkshire 67 - Canterbury 47|
There would be no offensive struggles today against the visiting Saints. They were coming in hungry after a hard-fought loss at their place and so they wanted revenge. We were ready, however, and played certainly our most complete game of the year.
From the opening tip, we seemed more confident on offense and actually made some shots! Jack Scarafoni '17 connected on a 3; Kevin Crabtree '17 repeatedly got good looks at the high post and hit several; Terryl Wilson '16 made perhaps one of the best plays of the season when he skied for a rebound and converted on the way up -- it was an amazingly athletic basket; and, as has been the case of late, Milton Martinez '15 played the first half with terrific energy and converted to the tune of 6 first half points. We entered the break with a nice 8 point lead.
As always, we focused on those first four minutes of the half and believed we had a chance to salt the game early. Unfortunately, Canterbury had other plans and they nailed a couple of threes in the early going. Fortunately, however, we were able to keep pace and not let those scores cut too deeply into the lead. The key in the second half was Brian Rodriguez '16 and Matt Licata '15. Brian continues to get better and better and he worked hard on the boards and converted some easy buckets. Matt exploded with a 10 point half -- many in transition, including a terrific finish off an alley oop on a full sprint. Jack Weeden '17 and Patrick Frey '15 sealed the win and kept the margin comfortable with a couple of late 3s.
All in all a great team win.
