Basketball - Boys Junior Varsity
vs. The Taft School
|Date:||January 23, 2013|
|Score:||35 - 63|
Event Recap:The boys JV came ready to play but still could not match Taft's athleticism and shotmaking. Taft got off to a super hot start from the field, seemingly draining from every spot on the floor. That, combined with their press that led to a couple of careless turnovers, got us into a quick hole. Two timeouts later, we were down 12-0. From there, the first half was just a matter of survival until we could refocus and regroup at the break. Unfortunately, and to their credit, Taft did not slow down until the horn sounded, by which time they had accumulated a decisive 35-12 advantage.
At the half, we spoke about the need to utilize our opportunity in the second half to improve -- especially on the offensive end. And to their great credit, the boys did just that. We ran a much smoother offense in the second half, even occasionally showing some the of the offensive patience that has been so elusive for us this year. We spread the floor, worked off the ball, made some simple (but solid) passes, and got some scores. In fact, the 5-0 start we put together at the start of the half, set us up for a more respectable 23 point 16 minutes. We never really challenged on the score board, but the competitiveness in the second half bodes well for upcoming contests in the second half of the season.
We will hopefully learn from this experience and rebound against Suffield on Saturday. We are home at 3:30.
