The JV boys hoops squad dropped its third straight road contest at The Gunnery. Things started out well as we jumped out to a 7-1 lead. When the Gunnery shifted to their full court press, however, we took too long to adjust and turned the ball over repeatedly. Unfortunately for us, the Highlanders converted those turnovers into easy scores. With about 2 minutes to play, they had stretched the lead to about 7. But we still felt we were in good position until they got unbelievably hot and buried several threes in a quick spurt that pushed the halftime cushion to 15.
Though we made some successful runs in the second half, we couldn't sustain the level of defensive intensity that we will need in order to be successful this season. We will need to play with a deeper sense of desperation at all times and channel that energy into conversions on the other end. Despite the loss, there were some bright spots. Djetry Joseph played well for the second game in a row; and Cristian Acosta had his best minutes of the year and scored some big baskets.
We'll get better in 2013 and have our chance to play at home for the first time of the season. We'll be looking forward to that. Now it's time to focus on exams and return to the court after break with a renewed focus.
