In their final game of the 2014-2015 season, the Bears fell to Rumsey Hall in a hard-fought 5-1 heartbreaker. Making some incredible saves, Haleigh Sullivan ‘15 stopped 31 shots including two breakaways, a 2 on 0 , and several odd-man rushes.
The speedy Rumsey team was a solid match for the Bears, and played to a 1-0 lead by the end of the first. The Bears worked their stretch breakout to gain territory but despite excellent puck movement, managed only three shots on net.
In the second, sticking to their guns, the Bears committed to tougher defense in front of the net and kept the Rumsey players running around on the outside of the zone. With several close-calls, the game heated up and Berkshire took its first of three penalties as Logan Bell ‘14 sat in the box for a roughing call. The Bears held off Rumsey until 3:41 in the period when a defensive breakdown led to a wide open shooting lane for the Rumsey points.
Entering their final period of the season, the Berkshire girls were determined to fight back but Rumsey widened its lead to three with 9:49 on the clock. Only seconds later, Senior and four-year team member Allegra Horstman carried the puck behind the Rumsey net after chasing down a dump-in, and scored from below the goal line at the puck bouced off the back of the Rumsey netminder. In an extciting period of hockey, both teams battled to the end with two penalities a piece and two more Rumsey goals to close out the day.Depsite the final score, the Berkshire coaches were proud to close out the season with a team that played their hearts out right to the final buzzer.
