Thirds falls to Millbrook JV, 4-1
Thirds hockey traveled to Millbrook for their annual visit to the big barn that houses Bontecou Rink to take on the Mustang JV squad. These games are usually close, hard-fought affairs that have produced their share of Thirds legends over the years. Unfortunately, this year's matchup did not provide the usual drama.
For one reason and another, the Bears spent most of the first period shorthanded, and eventually paid the price, as Millbrook went up 1-0 late in the period on a backhand flip that evaded goaltender Andrew Koudis, '16. The hosts scored again late in the second, but then, just 90 seconds later, Brendan Moloy, '15, put the Bears back in the game with an impressive backhand top-shelf strike. As the boys came out for the third period, spirits were high, but just a minute in to the period, Millbrook scored again. Another goal slipped in a few minutes later and that was all she wrote.
The day was not without it's highlights, though. Koudis' performance between the pipes was epic, as he turned away a huge number of legitimate scoring chances to keep his team in the game through the second period. Until management can sign a sure-fire sniper, though, the team will have to clamp down defensively and hope to hang on and win some low-scoring games.
