Hockey - Boys Thirds vs. The Taft School

Event Type: Regular

Date: January 8, 2014

Score:Berkshire 7 - Taft 4

Event Recap:
Thirds outlast Taft, 7-4
Note: compared to other Thirds write-ups, this one comes up short due to my having stayed up too late Tuesday night watching the Boston Bruins (featuring my former advisee, Kevan Miller, '07) take on the Anaheim Ducks (featuring Ben Lovejoy, Cardigan fac brat and one of my kids' former babysitters).
Thirds hockey won their home opener today, defeating the Taft Rhinos 7-4.  Richie Riegel, '15, led the way, notching a hat trick for the Bears.  The good guys got out to a 6-2 lead by the second intermission on goals by Riegel (2), Matt Spaniol, '16, Charlie Quaintance, '15, Eric Smith, '14, and Brendan Moloy, '15.  Taft scratched back, scoring two goals in the third, to draw within two, but Riegel put the nail in the coffin, completing the hat trick with two minutes left in the game.  Andrew Koudis, '16, was solid in his first start of the year in net, Mike Schiffer, 15 provided great support from the blue line, and Jay Allen, '15 and Alden Boldt, '14, worked hard creating opportunities in the offensive zone.  Next up for the boys: Trinity Pawling at home this Saturday.
