Squash - Boys Varsity vs. New Englands

Event Type: Tournament

Date: February 26, 2011

Score:14th place

Event Recap:
The Bears had a solid performance at the Class A New Englands this weekend.  Three of our seven players advanced in the main draw on Friday night.  #1 Alex Arjoon '11 defeated Liam McLintock in five and was the final match of the night.  Both players pushed each other to the brink as Alex won the fifth in a tie-breaker.  #3 Colin Chang '11 defeated his Tabor opponent in four close games.  #5 Ben Ross '11 played a strong Salisbury player and won in four.  Saturday morning proved to be a tough one for many of the Bears in the consolation round.  However Saturday evening saw #7 Scot McMillan '11 win his first match to earn 13th/15th spot.  In addition, #4 Hayden Dunham '12 earned his first victory to take the same position in his flight as Scot. Both played some great squash all weekend.  Scot took a game off the eventual #2 player in his flight.  Hayden lost a great five-gamer to a player he'd lost to 3-0 during Nationals.  #2 Jason Shrubb and #6 Hank Hoover both struggled to find consistency on the court and ultimately couldn't find the length necessary to earn a victory.  Colin, Ben, and Alex all advanced through the consolation round to earn 8th, 6th, and 9th respectively.  It was a great tournament for the Bears and a wonderful year for the team.  It will be tough to watch 7 of these 10 players walk across the stage during graduation as they will all be missed.
