Basketball - Boys Varsity
|Date:||January 8, 2014|
|Score:||Berkshire 50 - Avon 65|
With only two days of practice under their belt, the Bears hopped on the bus heading south on Route 44 to test their metal against the Avon Winged Beavers. Well, the term “never got off of the bus” seemed to apply during the first half as the Bears had mustered 9 points with seven minutes left in the opening stanza. By half time they still only had 19 points and were trailing Avon by 18 points. The second half saw the real team show up as, even after falling behind by more than twenty points, the team clawed back into the game, closing the gap to a mere 8 points with 4 minutes left. The Winged Beavers finished with a flurry to win the game by 15; 65 to 50. The good news of the day after such a sluggish start was that the team did win the second half, which will surely help as we go forward with the January schedule.
Team lines for the game saw everyone get minutes and seven players chip in some points. High scorer for the game was Troy Pierre-Lewis with 18; followed by Chris Cooke’s 10; Cyrus Rothwell-Ferraris had 9; Jay Ma had 6 along with some great defensive effort in the press; Trevor Berry, Will Fortenbaugh and Levente Wiggins rounded off the rest of the scoring. Ben Brigham and Colin Fuss both gave spirited efforts on the boards and in the press. The second half of the game will be the building block for Saturday’s rematch with the Gunnery in a Saturday night game in Washington, Connecticut.
