Captains: TBA

The competitiveness of prep school basketball has risen to the highest level in the country. Berkshire has been keeping pace with the rising talent level and continues to produce student athletes who are able to compete both academically and athletically at all division levels. Coach Peter Kinne’s thirty plus years of coaching experience has allowed him to connect with college coaches from a wide variety of top academic and athletic schools, including but not limited to Williams, Colby, Stony Brook, URI, Wisconsin, UNH, Quinnipiac, Penn and Yale.

The team is generally made up of a mix of college-level players as well as athletes who may go on to excel in a different sport in college. The Bears love an up-tempo, pressing style of play, which has helped the team win several Tri-State League championships along with multiple berths in the New England Class B championship. Berkshire currently competes in the Western New England Basketball conference, which includes all of the area’s best prep school programs. The team will also participate in the Bob Southall Christmas tournament at Loomis December 19 and 20. This trip will allow for some extra exposure to New England college coaches.

Basketball at Berkshire is demanding but we never lose sight of what is important as our program educates the whole student, not just for sport or school but for life.

December 2013:   This year’s squad has several newcomers who should mix nicely with the few returners from last year’s team.  The newcomers to the team this season are Cyrus Rothwell- Ferraris a high flying forward from Hanover New Hampshire; Troy Pierre-Louis a 1000 point scoring point guard from Rhode Island; and Levante Wiggins a local addition from near-by St. Joseph’s High School in Pittsfield.  The  experience and skill brought by these new players, as well as a returning starter Christopher Cooke, an experienced guard in TJ Stewart, along with several other new players like Colin Fuss, Ben Brigham, Jay Ma, Trevor Berry, Nim Farhood, Ben Akim, and Will Fortenbaugh leads the coaches to believe that the winter campaign for 2013-14 will be a bright one.

Where Some Bears are playing:

In recent years, Berkshire has graduated players who have gone on to play Division I (URI, Dartmouth, UPENN, Maine).  Currently Berkshire has players at Trinity College, Stony Brook, St. Lawrence, and Sage.
