The Bears took to the road this weekend to head East for back to back games against Lawrence and Cushing. On Saturday night, Berkshire took to the ice against Lawrence and put together a solid game.
In the opening period, Berkshire was moving well, putting together great passes and driving into the offensive zone with purpose. The Bears were firing the puck on next and driving in for rebounds and with 9:47 left in the period found themselves up 1-0. Lauren Henman '14 fired a hard shot of goal after receiving a pass from Kate Klimaszewski '16. While Lawrence's goalie got a piece of it, it found its way into the net to give Berkshire the lead heading into the locker room.
The second period saw a lot of action at both ends of the ice. Berkshire struck first at 9:36 when Kenzie Lancaster '15 put the finishing touches on a nice feed from Henman. Erin Dillon '17 followed up 1:40 later burrying a rebound. Maddie Beitler '17 stepped up and broke up a play on Lawrence's breakout and then fired a shot on goal. Alli Sugar '16 tipped the shot and Erin found herself open to finish off a great play. Shortly after taking a 3-0 lead, Berkshire found themselves in the penalty box. Lawrence was able to get on the board with a power play goal at 1:33 and shift the momentum in their favor heading off for the second intermission.
Lawrence came out strong in the third and continued to ride the energy they gained with the late second period goal. Berkshire took a penalty early in the period and again found themselves giving up a power play goal. The Bears were able to regroup, fight off the attack from Lawrence and regain the momentum. Jamie Ernst '15 stopped 10 of the 11 she saw that period and really helped settle the team down. The defensive efforts of Maggie Curran '17, Olivia Good '15 and Ronnie Lortie '14 allowed Berkshire to shut down their defensive zone and push the puck up ice. As time ticked away, Berkshire's Kylie Wilkes '16 picked up the puck low off a feed from Dillon and drove the net. She put the puck past Lawrence's goalie to give the Bears a little Cushion at 4:55. Berkshire shut down Lawrence's offensive attack to hang on for a great win.
