Hockey - Girls Varsity
|Date:||December 9, 2013|
|Score:||Berkshire 0 - Hotchkiss 1|
Berkshire was back at it Monday evening as they travelled down the road to face off against Hotchkiss. A late power play goal in the second by Hotchkiss would be the only goal of the game. Berkshire fell to Hotchkiss 1-0.
For most of the game, the two teams were evenly matched. Each team had opportunities and each team made mistakes. Berkshire started out strong and were able to control play for the first few minutes of the game, but a couple of defensive mistakes had them running around and momentum shifting to Hotchkiss for the final minutes of the period. Hotchkiss would hold an 8 to 5 shot advantage, but both team would enter the locker room tied.
In the second period, Berkshire continued to run around defensively, but were able to put some more offensive pressure on Hotchkiss. Alli Sugar '16 had a nice shot on goal in final minutes to add to the excitement, but there was no one there to capitalize on the rebound. Despite holding a 7 to 6 shot advantage, Berkshire would head into the locker room down by one. Berkshire found themselves in the penalty box and while Ernst was playing very well, Hotchkiss buried a rebound that was picked up and sent across to the far side of the net.
Berkshire stepped up their game in the third period. They were led by Lancaster '15 who made several key plays that led to scoring opportunities. The Bears best opportunity came when Lancaster was fed a great pass across the slot and sent a one timer sailing toward the net. The Hotchkiss goalie made a fantastic save on the shot and this would prove to be the save of the game. Despite holding the shot advantage again in the third, Hotchkiss was able to keep the Bears off of the score board.
Kate Klimaszewski '16 worked hard all game for the bears offensively and defensively as did Maddie Beitler '17. Renee Dreher '15 played a solid defensive game for the Bears.
