The Bears traveled to Winchendon on Saturday afternoon to play Brewster in their last game of the season. Berkshire took the ice with energy and poise, and a steady string of effective forechecking led the Bears to get on the scoreboard first! Kylie Wilkes '16 took a nice, low shot from the top of the slot and Murphy Newman '13 stood atop the crease to shove the rebound behind the Brewster goalie, where the puck slid near the goal line. Lauren Henman '14 was on the other side of the cage and tapped the biscuit into the basket!
Similar smart play came from the Bears in the second period, as they played solid defense and offense. However, Brewster was able to capitalize on an opportunity with less than 9 minutes remaining. It was all tied up at 1 heading into the third.Three minutes into the final period, Brewster tallied their second goal of the game, taking the lead. Two more goals came for Brewster, and despite some great efforts, Berkshire just couldn't find the back netting again.
Senior Jeanne Morin '13 had some incredible saves in the third, ending her Berkshire career on a great note. Senior defensemen Bella Sinsigalli '13 and Kira vonSteinbergs '13 had excellent games, keeping a strong hold on the Brewster forwards in the d-zone. And in their final games as Berkshire hockey forwards, Murphy Newman '13 and Rhi Vanderbeek '13 hustled and worked their hardest. Although the 4-1 loss was not the final result the Bears were hoping to end their season with, they gave it their all.
