The Bears had a huge come behind on Monday afternoon in the Jack. Coming off of a hard fought game against Kent on Saturday, a short day off and a day of classes, the Bears knew they were in for an uphill battle. The first period of play proved what they knew would be true. Hotchkiss came out ready to play. Five minutes into the period, Rhiannon Vanderbeek made it onto the score sheet in the form of a penalty. The Bears were able to kill of the entirety of the penalty, but Hotchkiss kept on us, finally slipping one in at the 11 minute mark. Despite the Bears' best efforts, they were unable to put on in and retreated to the locker room down a goal.
The second period saw much of the same back and forth. The Bears seemed to find their groove, putting hard offensive pressure on the Bearcat defense. About a third of the way through the period, once again, the Bears found themselves down a man. But, the strong and disciplined defense of Bella Sinsigalli, Kira vonSteinbergs, Ronnie Lortie and Alli Sugar won the day and they were able to kill it off.
After the break between periods, the Bears were rearing to go. Despite good offensive pressure by the dynamic trio of Rhi Vanderbeek, Kate Klimaszewski and Kylie Wilkes, it was the defensive force of Bella Sinsigalli who put the first one in. After pinching in and stripping a Hotchkiss forward, she wrapped around the net and with almost no angle stuffed one in. Lauren Henman lit the lamp only a couple minutes later, putting in a bar down wrist shot from the slot. The Bears finished off a tight game when with less than a minute to go Hotchkiss pulled their goalie. Jeanne Morin shined as she kept all of the Hotchkiss advances and held the Bears in it for the win.
The Bears look to continue their undefeated streak as they take on the Taft Rhinos on Wednesday a 2:30.
