The boys hockey team looked to get back on track on Saturday when they faced off against Northfield Mount Hermon. The two teams traded opportunities in the first period, but neither side could find the back of the net. It wasn't until the second period when the scoring in the game would pick up. Two and a half minutes into the second period defenseman Bryan Gerstenfeld '14 hit Adam Tracey '14 with a long pass that set Tracey up for a breakaway. Tracey had a defender hanging all over him, but was able to fend him off as he finished the chance on his backhand. NMH would bounce right back as they would even the score on the power play a minute later. Berkshire was not to be deterred though. They kept the pressure on as Nick O'Connor '14, Nate Summers '14, and Craig Puffer '14 all scored in the next four minutes to give the Bears some breathing room. Tracey would add his second tally of the game later in the period on the power play. Goaltender Tim Ernst '13 stood tall throughout the game, making some big saves early to keep the Bears in the game. Nick O'Connor added a second goal in the third on a nice play to the net where he went backhand shelf walking out of the corner. Bryan Gerstenfeld '14with three assists and Charlie Corcoran '14 with two get the playmaker awards in the game.
It was a nice win for the Bears as they head into exams and prepare for the Avon Tournament. The first game will pit the Bears against the host Winged Beavers at 3pm on Thursday.
