The JV lacrosse team opened up their season with a strong win against Taft on Wednesday afternoon. As a team formed by a conglomeration of savvy veterans and newcomers to the game of lacrosse, the day's butterflies were particularly pronounced. Yet, when the game began, it was as if they'd done it a million times.
Our offense was led by Lexi Merison and Hallie Mather - each contributing a goal to the 10-9 game. Merison and Mather were helped by Elise Chavel, Hanna Derrig and Nicole Martinez. Lan Nguyen, the acting captain for the game, was instrumental in opening up space for her teammates. Indie Cord and Kara Falckled our defense with help from Noemi Ogaz. Lastly, Nicky Friedman was our brick wall in net.
The Bears exceeded their expectations in their first game, successfully fending off one of their biggest rivals. They look to continue their winning streak on Saturday.
