The Junior Varsity Golf program at Berkshire presents an excellent opportunity for young golfers (boys and girls) to improve their game through frequent play and competitive matches. The season starts in early April when the South Egremont Country Club usually opens, a great 18 hole course that is eight minutes from campus. This close proximity allows us to play at least seven and usually nine holes a day on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Since both varsity and JV have matches almost every Wednesday and Saturday, we have varsity qualifying rounds on Mondays and Thursdays where the medalist will then practice with varsity the next day to challenge to play in the varsity match the next day.
Our practices stress the fundamentals to shake the winter cobwebs from our games. South Egremont has a driving range as well as a practice green so we can focus on our short games and iron out glitches in our swings. We also stress the core values of golf, focusing on courtesy and sportsmanship during our play. Coach Bullock will play with different players each day to monitor their progress and work with them on specific areas of their games.
The 2011 season has nine matches on the schedule and the kids will play some great courses in our area.
