The
Berkshire Boys’ Junior Varsity Tennis Team gives less experienced players an
opportunity to learn basic tennis skills and strategies. The coaching staff
places a large emphasis on teamwork and dedication as players work to improve
proper technique, footwork, and positioning on the court. Practices are held on
a daily basis and include drills that prepare players for match situations. The
team competes against other Junior Varsity programs in New England and every
member of the team plays in a match. Whenever possible, players compete in both
singles and doubles matches.
Players
are ranked in each match according to ability level to ensure that players of
similar experience levels compete against each other. Highlights of the
schedule include matches against perennial rivals Hotchkiss and Taft. In
previous years, players with little or no previous experience have gone on to
join the Varsity program after one or two years participating on the JV team.
