Baseball - Boys Junior Varsity
vs. Rumsey Hall
|Date:||April 9, 2014|
The Bears put some big numbers on the scoreboard on Wednesday as they combined with host Rumsey Hall for 20 runs and 15 hits in the game. In the end, Berkshire won the offensive battle 11-9 in seven innings after eight lead changes.
The Bears pulled out the win thanks to a strong sixth inning. A sacrifice fly by Chris Cooke, who racked up four RBIs on two hits, gave Berkshire the lead for good by scoring Jake Grant, who managed two hits and two runs. Pat Frey also swung the bat well on the day, lining a couple of base knocks and making a dazzling grab at first base to end a Rumsey rally. Bears were also seen flashing serious leather in the outfield, with Will Perekslis making a grab in deep right center just after entering in the fifth inning.
Infield defense was not as sharp. Six errors committed by the the boys in green and grey kept Rumsey in it until the final frame, obscuring some strong work on the mound. Henry Thomas pitched three solid innings in relief of Jack Gustavson, on loan from varsity, who started on the hill and pitched his way through four breezy frames, striking out four and allowing just a single earned run.
