Baseball - Boys Junior Varsity
|Date:||April 2, 2014|
On a long-awaited sunny spring day, j.v. baseball opened the season hosting Gunnery. The teams battled back and forth for three grueling hours, with the host team getting the better of it in the end.
Chris Cooke, Patrick Frey and Henry Thomas shared pitching duties, with Thomas earning the win with a gritty performance in the last two frames. Jack Scarafoni led the charge offensively, notching three hits and four RBI. Brady Wilson reached base on two hits and two walks and scored, and Jake Grant posted one hit, two RBI and three runs, swiping three bases while he was at it.
Coach Cronze, in the dugout for his first game since starring for Coach Gappa's side in 2009, was impressed with the tenacity shown by the boys. "They battled today," he noted approvingly. "I loved it."
The Bears host a club team this Saturday, as the Connecticut Outlaws pay a visit to Berkshire. Coach Kohlhepp plans to prioritize his younger ballplayers that day and give some third formers a chance on the hill.
