Solid pitching, timely hitting and sound defense keyed a solid opener for the Bears.
Patrick Frey '15 pitched five efficient innings, yielding just two runs. Frey helped his own cause by starting two double plays and drilling a two-out double to bring in a pair of runs. Henry Thomas '16 closed things out on the mound, getting out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the seventh to preserve the victory. Between the two of them, Frey and Thomas threw first-pitch strikes to 20 out of 21 batters, making the visitors put the ball in play.
At the top of the order, Corey Wieczorek '16 paced the hosts with a walk and two base hits, missing out on a triple by virtue of a nifty relay from deep left. (Coach Kohlhepp may have been a bit over-exuberant on that call.) Jack Gustavson '16 added a double and scored twice.
Berkshire will host Canterbury on Saturday and hope to keep the momentum going off of this win.
