The Bears traveled to Loomis Chaffee for their first away game of the season. Berkshire jumped off the bus ready to go, notching the girls two goals of the game. Loomis then mounted a comeback to go up 4-2. Berkshire scored again to close the margin to one and then the Pelicans went on a run. The score at the half was 6-3. The wheels came off a bit for the Bears in the second half as Loomis pressured the ball well and successfully trapped Berkshire in the midfield with a disciplined zone ride. A few key Berkshire turnovers widened the gap for Loomis. Berkshire scored some last ditch goals at the end of the game but it was not enough.
Elle Mattsson '15 had a breakout game for the Bears with two goals, one assist, and two ground balls. Sydney Beldock '14 also contributed on attack with three goals and Murphy Newman '13 added one goal and an assist. Beginner Ronnie Lortie '14 was a real spark plug in the midfield with four ground balls and two interceptions and Amelia Patsalos-Fox '14 and Julia Slyer '14 also contributed with three ground balls. While the score does not accurately reflect the good competition on the field, the Bears know that the key to future success will be to play a full 50 minutes of lacrosse with heart and hustle.
