vs. Northfield Mount Hermon

Event Recap:In their season opener, the Bears sprinted out to a quick lead and were able to stave off a late surge by the Hoggers to preserve the victory. They played with heart, poise, and excellent teamwork. Responding to an early NMH goal, Murphy Newman '13 and Sydney Beldock '14 went on a tear as they each amassed 4 goals to take us into half time with an 8-1 lead. Over the course of the game, Beldock also had 3 assists and 7 ground balls as she helped Berkshire maintain key possession at the end of the game. Allie McErlean '14 and Elle Mattsson '15 made significant contributions in the offensive end with 1 goal, 1 assist, and 2 ground balls apiece. While our veterans accounted for most of the goals, it is important also to celebrate some of the new talent on this year's team -- several Bears made their Varsity debut today, including Emily Barclay '15 (4 assists and 4 ground balls), Sandra Stephan '15 (6 ground balls), Ronnie Lortie '14 (6 ground balls), Molly Crabtree '15 (1 goal, 4 ground balls), and Lucy Hollister '15 (4 ground balls). On defense, Julia Slyer '14, Maureen McCarthy '14 and Eloise Morrow '14 came up with many key interceptions and ground balls, and then were able to transition the ball with confidence. Per usual, Britt Brown put on quite a show in net, stuffing many point blank NMH opportunities. While they can celebrate this victory, the Bears do recognize that they have much to work on in the next few days before they head to Wallingford, CT on Wednesday to face the Wild Boars of Choate.
