Berkshire travelled down to Taft Friday afternoon to take on another strong league opponent. By doing some scoreboard watching you had the feeling that this was going to be a close one. The Bears were a bit banged up and needed some younger guys to step up and pull some weight. The first quarter saw Taft score early, but Michael Allen responded for the Bears immediately to tie up the game. After that, the defense and goalies for each side tightened up and shut everyone down for the rest of the quarter.
The second quarter followed the same pattern as the first as Taft scored the first two goals only to be matched by two Berkshire goals as long pole Jack O’Donoghue ripped through the Taft defense and buried one, and Michael Allen caught a pass from Sam Woodcock and put it away to tie the game at three. Each side would put in one more goal before halftime as Woodcock and Allen teamed up again for the Bears giving Allen the hat trick. Berkshire was once again in a dog fight.
In the third quarter Taft was able to take a slim edge 8-6 as Berkshire got goals from Noah Arin (assisted but Chuck Corcoran) and Sam Woodcock.
The fourth quarter saw each team exchange two goals apiece and the Bears lost another tight-fought battle. Robbie Fiamengo and Sam Woodcock scored for the Bears, and Mike Allen returned the favor: this time he assisted on Woodcock’s goal. Goalie Tyler Behring had another great game in the net making 15 saves. Defensive players Jack O’Donoghue and Cooper Fersen had solid games, as did face off man Sam Hahn who picked up five ground balls. There will be no rest for the Bears as the take SATs and then host Choate tomorrow.
