The boys’ lacrosse program at Berkshire began a new era in 2010. After winning its fourth consecutive Division II league championship (WNESSLA) in 2009, Berkshire lacrosse made the move to Division I. The move allowed Berkshire to play against the top competition in New England. Last season Berkshire continued to play well in one of the best leagues in the country, finishing impressive with wins over schools such as Westminster, Kent, and Northfield Mount Hermon.

The team practices and plays on our field turf surface that allows for continued training outside in inclement weather, a must for New England lacrosse teams. In addition, the team has another practice field with grass to help better prepare for away games.

As part of the preparation for the season, the team participates in their annual spring trip through 3D Lacrosse down in St. Pete’s, Florida. This year Berkshire had the opportunity to play against Episcopal (VA), the Peddie School (NJ), Anderson (TX), and Woodberry Forest (VA) before heading home to start league competition.  

In 2009, Berkshire opened the Jackman L. Stewart Athletic Center, a facility that provides the team access to indoor playing facilities, spacious locker rooms, training facilities, and a state of the art fitness center for pre-season conditioning and development.

Class of 2013 heads to College

As Berkshire is heading to the end of another great season, the coaches wanted to thank the senior class for the hard work and dedication in helping to build and maintain the lacrosse program at Berkshire.  Several of the senior Bears will be heading off to play college lacrosse and continue their education. Tri-captain Michael Allen caps off his third season by leading the Berkshire midfield and will take his skills to Dickinson College.  Three year starting goalie and two time team MVP Tyler Behring is finishing up another fantastic year in the net and is looking forward to joining Fairfield University’s incoming freshman class.  Post graduate Robbie Fiamengo has been a great addition to the Berkshire team as a constant scoring threat and will being heading off to join the lacrosse team at Ohio Wesleyan. Fellow post graduate Jack O’Donoghue, who has been a tough and versatile defenseman, led the Bears in groundballs for the season and has decided to pursue his hockey career by entering into Juniors next year.  While tri-captain Quin Pompi decided to forgo the dream of college lacrosse; no one can blame him, however, for signing on with the Princeton hockey team for the next four years.  Jared Shatkin finishes up a strong three year run with the Bears lacrosse team as the long stick middie and will play football and lacrosse at St. Lawrence University.  Tri-captain Sam Woodcock, who will play his college ball at Gettysburg, has also helped to anchor the Bears offense through the attack and has proven to be a great dodging and shooting threat.  Finally, defenseman Charlie Yorke finishes off a strong Berkshire career and has decided to help build a young Depauw University lacrosse program.

Fersen verbally commits to UVA

Cooper Fersen (class of 2014) verbally committed to UVA this winter.  Fersen (6’3 200lbs) started every game for the Bears as a freshman and was covering some of the top attackmen in the country.  He also piled up 53 groundballs and 3 assists over the course of his first season. With a year under his belt, Fersen will be asked to take an even greater role in the helping to lead the Bears’ defense.  Fersen, who hails from Dorset Vermont, also plays varsity hockey for the Bears.
