The Bears welcomed the Gunnery to campus for a rare Monday afternoon game. The match up against Gunnery is always a special one because the winner gets to possess the McKee Cup, a tradition that was started to honor the McKee brothers, Parker and Will, twins who played at each school and battled for four hard years against one another before heading off to Duke. Berkshire has had the good fortune to have held the McKee cup from the beginning and they did not want to give it away this year. The Bears had a little extra bounce in their step for this game having had the day off because of the prom the night before and they caught Gunnery flat-footed in the first quarter and jumped out to a quick four-goal lead.
The second quarter saw Gunnery fight back and put three goals in, but the Bears had some answers of their own and went into the half up 8-3. The second half belonged to the Bears as they fired in another eight goals and the defense and goalies Tyler Behring (7 saves) and Connor Shalleck (2 saves) held the Gunnery offense to just one goal. Sam Hahn and Brendan Moloy had a nice day at the faceoff X to help the Bears maintain possession, while Jack O’Donoghue picked up seven ground balls. With the win, the Bears were able to maintain possession of the McKee Cup for another year. Berkshire scoring was led by Robbie Fiamengo (5 goals, 1 assist), Sam Woodcock (4 goals, 1 assist), Michael Allen (3 goals), Chuck Corcoran (3 assists), Regan Haas (1 goal, 2 assists), Quin Pompi (1 goal, 1 assist), and Brendan Moloy and Sam Merritt who each added a goal. The Bears will have to use this momentum to carry them through a tough run as they will play Taft and Choate back to back on Friday and Saturday.
