Event Recap:Girls' crew hit the road on Wednesday, traveling to scenic Pomfret, CT to take on the Griffins of Pomfret School as well as the Lincoln School Lynx (Lynxes? Lynxae?). With a couple of injuries on the squad, lineups were a bit jumbled, but the girls gained some valuable race experience. With a strong tailwind pushing them down the course, the Third Boat of Sami "Shades" Walkingshaw, '15, Renee "Rocky Mountain" Dreher, '15, Sassy "007" Cosman-Connery, '15, Sissi f(x) d(x) Wang, '13, and cox "Stone Cold" Katie Soper, '16, rowed hard, but did not get the result they were hoping for, finishing third behind Pomfret and Lincoln. The Second Boat, featuring Maddie "Mads B" Bricken, '13, Annette "Nugs" Key, '16, Juliet "What light through yonder window breaks" Duplessie, '16, Julia "Barcelona Bruiser" Reger, '13, and cox "Arlington" Addie Bullock, '14, raced strongly the whole way down the course, finishing just off of Lincoln in third place. Finally, the First Boat of Sophie "Perky" Perekslis, '14, Bryn "Lily" Kenny, '14, Arwen "Development Camper" Neski, '15, Rhiannon "Rings like a bell" Vanderbeek, '13, and cox Olivia "The Boss" Good, '15, got behind Pomfret early in the race, but used an effective 20 at the midpoint to pull even. A power 10 at the 1000 meter mark helped them nose out ahead, but an unfortunate crab with 250 meters to go put them just behind Pomfret. They finished four seconds behind Pomfret, but comfortably ahead of Lincoln. Next up for the girls: the annual Founder's Day regatta on Sunday, May 5.
