Crew - Boys Varsity vs. The Taft School
vs. Choate Rosemary Hall

Event Type: Regular

Date: April 19, 2014

Event Recap:
The boys' crew team took to the water for their opening regatta Saturday, facing a raging headwind and many fast opponents. The Bears were host to Chase Collegiate, Taft, and traditional New England rowing powerhouse Choate. Berkshire took two out of three races against Chase, split the four races they had with Taft, and lost the five races with Choate. In the race of the day, the boys' second boat, made up of Richard Riegel, James Donovan, Alex Dechellis, Eric Smith and coxswain Ben Lang, found themselves neck and neck with Choate's second boat with 500 meters left in the race. Coming to the line, each crew threw everything they had into the race, but neither could get separation from the other. In a bang-bang finish that required the judges to confer, Choate edged Berkshire in a time of 6:34.7 to Berkshire's 6:35.0.
