After building momentum for several years, the Bears’ 2013 season was filled with highlights and established Berkshire as a premier program in New England. The team earned a regular season record of 11-1 that included wins over Kent, Taft, Westminster and Suffield with the only loss coming in a competitive match against Class A champion Hotchkiss. Berkshire capped off the season with a run to the semi-finals of the New England Prep School Athletic Conference tournament that included an 8-1 quarterfinal win over Brooks.
With the 2013 team’s #1, #2 and #5 singles players returning and a solid group of entering new students, the 2014 season is promising. More important than the wins is the approach the team develops in practice and then takes into matches. With an emphasis on the rewards of hard work, mental strength and sportsmanship, the individuals of the team support one another in bringing the most focused possible approach on court. The bonds of teamwork extend off the court as well and the players enjoy one another’s company to the fullest, especially during trips to away matches which are always laughter filled. Prior to the season, the team travels to Boca Raton, Florida for a week of training and scrimmages as well as a trip to Key Biscayne to watch the world’s top pros in action.
