Event Recap:Flawless defense and timely offense powered the Bears’ victory against Suffield on a beautiful spring afternoon. What seemed like might be a tough day in the outfield, with strong winds and talented Tigers hitters, was taken control of by the Bears’ outfielders. Cam Biasin ’14 and Jamie Ernst ’15 put on a show in left and center, robbing Suffield of possible key hits (totaling seven catches between the two of them). The score remained 0-0 until the fifth inning when Krissy Govertsen ’15 drove in two with an RBI double. The Bears then scored five and six runs in the sixth and seventh innings respectively to give them a good cushion going into the bottom of the last two innings. The Tigers battled back with strong bats, hitting two home runs in a row in the bottom of the sixth, but Govertsen (pitching) and her defense remained poised and got the outs they needed. Biasin was also a force at the plate all day, going 5-5, joined by teammate Kendall Smith ’14 who went 3-4 with a double and three RBI. Smith also made a key diving catch at first base in the second inning. The Bears were thankful for lots of support despite being the away team, including alums Caitlin Kiene ’13 and Kelley Dempsey ’12.
