Baseball - Boys Varsity
vs. Williston Northampton
|Date:||May 5, 2014|
The Bears traveled to Williston on our annual Monday game. The Bears swung the bats well but were contained by Williston's defense which turned four double plays on the day. Will Aldam '14 started on the mound for the Bears and pitched a complete game to earn the win. The scoring began when Williston manufactured a run in the second off of Aldam to take an early lead. Berkshire would tie it in the fourth when Cyrus Rothwell-Ferraris '14, who lead off with a triple, scored when Brian Rodriguez '16 doubled. The Bears then took a 4-2 lead in the fifth when Jon Chudacoff '14 singled with the bases loaded and Bryan Gestenfeld '14 lined a ball to left that scored Isiah Nunez '14.
The Bears kept the pressure on in the sixth and added five more runs. Chudacoff and Nunez had the big hits in the inning to give the Bears a 9-2 lead. The game; however, was far from over. Williston took advantage of two errors in the inning to score six runs and cut the Berkshire lead to one. Willston had the go-ahead run on first but Aldam got the ninth hitter to ground out to Nate Summers '14 to end the game. It was another heart pounding game for the Bears, but they gave themselves enough of a cushion to hold on to the lead. Summers, Chudacoff, and Rothwell-Ferraris all finished with multiple hits and there were several nice plays in the field to keep Williston at bay. Chudacoff in particular had two heads up plays at second to cut down runners at third and Rothwell-Ferraris did a fine job of blocking the plate with bases loaded in the fourth. The Bears are now 4-1 against teams in the Cleary Division and put themselves in a good position as they head into the final week of the season.
The next challenge is Canterbury on Wednesday.
