Baseball - Boys Varsity vs. Hotchkiss

Event Type: Regular

Date: April 25, 2013

Score:9 - 5

Event Recap:

Great pitching performances by Ian Rasmussen ’14 and Johnny Grogan ’14 highlighted the Bears’ 9-5 victory against the Bearcats of Hotchkiss.

The Bearcats came out hot, putting the ball in play and scoring a run in the first to take an early lead. The Bears responded in kind in the second when Adam Tracey ’14 ripped a double and scored Bryan Gerstenfeld ’14. Hotchkiss again took the lead in the second on some timely hitting, but Berkshire would put up three in the third to make the score 5-2. Nate Summers ’14, Ryan Summers ’13, Gerstenfeld, and Sam Perkins ’14 all had hits in the inning, and Brian Rodriguez ’16 earned an RBI on a hard hit groundout. Yet Hotchkiss wouldn’t go away, cutting the lead to one in the bottom of the fourth.

Ryan Summers’ solo shot in the fifth added some insurance, while a three run rally fueled by walks and good base running in the sixth extended the Bears’ lead to 8-5. Tracey, who had a big day at the plate, scored the final run on a passed ball after doubling to start the seventh.
