Ryan Summers ’13 led the Bears’ offense with three hits against The Gunnery, while Will Aldam ‘14 went the distance and held the Highlanders to five hits in a 6-2 victory for Berkshire.
Gunnery jumped out to an early lead on a solo shot in the first, but the Bears kept their composure and evened the score in the bottom half when Kyle Kobis ’13, who drew a leadoff walk, later scored on a Summers ground ball. In the third, Berkshire extended its lead on a Summers two-run home, and a near flawless effort by the Berkshire infield helped Aldam to keep the Highlanders tally at one for much of the game.
Ahead 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth, the Bears added some insurance when Summers hit a triple, scoring his brother Nate Summers ’14 on the play. Ryan would make it around the bases and score on a bunt by Jesse Hahn ’15 later in the inning. The Highlanders threatened in the sixth with men in scoring position, but Kobis robbed an extra base hit and Aldam struck out the end man to get out of the inning unscathed. The Bears put one more on the board when Nate Summers knocked in Kobis for a 6-1 lead, and Aldam forfeited one more run to Gunnery in the final frame, sealing the 6-2 win for the home team.
