Berkshire School has a rich tradition in the game of baseball. This institution has fielded a team every year since Seaver Buck founded the school in 1907, and the crack-of-the-bat can still be heard Under the Mountain over one hundred years later.
The 2013 Berkshire squad put together another successful season in
the WNEPBL with an overall record of 11-5 and a league record of 10-3. With this performance, the Bears earned one of four spots in the league playoffs, their second bid in three years. With thirteen returners and some quality additions for next season, the Bears look to be competitive in the league once again.
Every season we work hard to:
- guide our players to achieve individual goals
- teach responsibility and discipline
- model good sportsmanship
- instill a strong work ethic and team attitude.
Playing quality baseball is our focus, and we are looking for players who want to compete, work hard, and do what is necessary for team success. We prepare our players for the next level, which includes working with each player who is interested in playing in college to find a school and program that is a good fit.
We wish the four seniors the best of luck next year in college, especially Ryan Summers (University of Louisville), Cristian Acosta (Dickinson College), and Jesse Hahn (Union College) who will be competing for playing time on their college squads next season.
The program continues to produce quality ball players. Some recent Berkshire alums have gone on to play baseball for:
University of Louisville = Ryan Summers '13
Dickinson College = Cristian Acosta '13
Union College = Jesse Hahn '13
Catholic University/Georgetown University = Charlie Dillon '12
Hamilton College = Brian Ferrell '12
Siena College = Jake Farrell '12
Union College = Joel Danisi '11
St. Lawrence University = Paul Piatelli '10
Six players from this year’s team were selected to the league All-Star team for their outstanding individual performances:
Ryan Summers '13 (Westfield, MA), Isiah Nunez '14 (Brooklyn, NY), Will
Aldam '14 (Danbury, CT), Adam Tracey '14 (Sleepy Hollow, NY), Kyle
Kobis '13 (Buffalo, NY), and Jesse Hahn ‘13 (Westport, CT).
In order to prepare for competition, the coaches offer a spring training trip during the March break. This spring season the team traveled to the Dominican Republic for a week where they played three games in Santiago and one in Puerto Plata. It was a great baseball and cultural experience for the team and a trip that we plan to do again in the near future. Watch the slideshow here.
The Bears play a twenty-game season during the regular season, including 14 league games and a weekend trip down to New Jersey for a two-game series to start the prep season. We hope these experiences prepare us to compete in
our league and become one of the top prep schools in New England.
