The JV volleyball roster had only been finalized for a few days when the team headed down to Middlebury, Connecticut, to take on the Wildcats of Westover in the first match-up of the season. It was a beautiful Saturday -- sunny and cool -- and spirits were high.
Berkshire dominated the first set, thanks in large part to the cool-headed consistency of
Kim Henry '13, who held on to the serve for a stunning 22-point run. Set two saw key contributions from a number of players --
Savanna Fortgang '16 notched an impressive kill on the first point of the game, setter
Kay Humes '15 kept the team communicating on the court, and
Chelsea Leeds '15 revealed a killer sidearm serve. That solid teamwork continued into set three, where fifth-former
Clementina Davila Tejeida's powerful hitting and third-former
Annie Love's consistent strong defense helped the Bears to a decisive win.
The Bears have a whole week to prepare for their match next Saturday, when they will travel to Williston to face yet another set of Wildcats.
