Field Hockey - Girls Varsity vs. Kent School

Event Type: Regular

Date: September 29, 2012

Score:2 -1

Event Recap:

The Bears moved up to a winning record for the first time in the short season on Saturday afternoon. After a tight scrimmage in pre-season, the Bears were looking forward to getting another whack at the Lions, a Class A team. While the Bears came out to a strong start, it was the Lions who struck first. Threading their way through the tight Bear defense, Kent was able to put one in after less than five minutes of play. The Bears played the majority of the half in their offensive half of the field. Despite hard work from Chase Gerber, Elle Mattsson, Annie Fraiman, Liza Jane Branch and Jeanne Morin on the front line, the Bears were unable to put one in.

The second half was marked by two stellar goals by the Bears offense. The first from Kira von Steinbergs, who, with only three weeks of field hockey experience under her belt, put a beautiful sweep beyond the Kent goaltender. With less than ten minutes to go, Jeanne Morin put in the GWG, her second tally of the year. Olivia Mason, Alli Sugar and Maureen McCarthy held down the defensive fort through the end of the game. Taylor Sorenson was steady once again, turning away three of four shots.
