Field Hockey - Girls Junior Varsity vs. Rumsey Hall

Event Type: Regular

Date: October 16, 2013

Score:Berkshire 1 - Rumsey 1

Event Recap:

Over several rivers and through lots of woods, to Rumsey Hall we went. The Bears adjusted to a grass field to take on the Rumsey Varsity squad, playing to a 1-1 tie with Eliza McKenna ‘16 stopping two shots in her second game in the net.

Despite the advantages of age and relative height, Berkshire fell into a quick 1-0 hole as the young Rumsey players demonstrated their speed and aggressiveness all over the field. It took the Bears the entire first half, a time out, and a half-time pep-talk to regain their focus and gusto. Determined to create some momentum for her team, Arwen Neski ‘15 charged up the sideline from the backfield to move the ball to the forwards. Though the adjustment to grass took stickhandling wizard Maddie Beitler ‘17 by surprise, she managed to work the ball through the Rumsey backfield to tie things up in the second half. Eliza Griffin ‘16 had two shots on goal, but the Rumsey keeper proved to be a formidable opponent, stopping six shots.

With the tie, the Bears move to 4-2-3 on the season with five games left to play.
