The JV Bears now stand at 1-0-2 following a 1-1 tie on the road at Millbrook School. The girls struggled to shake off their bus legs for this first away match-up and had a difficult time finding a comfortable momentum throughout the fifty minutes of play. Goalie Ani Wilson ‘16 had another strong showing, stopping seven shots on the net, including a strong sweep on a final penalty corner with just one second on the clock.
Despite frustration across the field, Berkshire did a good job of marking up in the defensive circle, and Maggie Markgraf ‘17 had a particularly strong performance playing as both a defensive back and midfielder throughout the game. Captain Hannah Honan ‘15 scored the only Green goal as she hammered home a rebound during a jumble in front of the Millbrook net. The girls in blue were not to be outdone, and followed shortly with a goal of their own as they capitalized on a defensive breakdown in the Bears’ circle.
Berkshire played out nine defensive penalty corners in the second half, four coming in an exhausting series that felt as if it may never end. The Bears managed to block the attack on each corner, and eventually transitioned play down the field off a big hit from center back Arwen Neski ‘15.
Green and Gray will be spending the next two practices refocusing on the essentials in preparation for Saturday’s game at Kent.
