Field Hockey - Girls Junior Varsity
vs. Suffield Academy
|Date:||October 13, 2012|
|Score:||1 - 1|
Berkshire JV Field Hockey made the trip down to Suffield for Suffield's parents' weekend. We were excited to play even with the pressure of the sea of orange-clad spectators. The game started well with our team taking the ball into Suffield's circle. Hannah Honan '15 pushed the ball across the front of the goal to Olivia Smith '14 who was waiting on post to tip the ball into the goal. With Berkshire scoring a goal in the first two minutes, the Bears were ready to repeat. The middies did a valiant job of trying to win the midfield, and Arwen Neski '15, Emma Graebner '14, and Renee Dreher '15 never stopped trying to push the ball to the waiting forwards. Unfortunately, Suffield scored a goal from high on the circle to tie the score. Throughout the first half, Ivey Mueller '16 did a wonderful job of holding the left side of the field with support from Christina Cohen '13 and Serena Menges '14 as sweeps.
During the second half, much of the game was played midfield. Berkshire tried to pull the ball out of the center of the field where there were many Suffield players. Alexis Rivera '16 had a very nice pass to Emmi who sent the ball to Olivia Smith. Faye Downes '15 was a strong wing who channeled the ball and the Suffield player until they were forced out of bounds. Addie Bullock '14 had a great save in net with an air ball that bounced off her glove. Even with all the effort, Berkshire struggled to score in the second half. We had a couple nice breakaways by Hattie Waldron '13 when she carried the ball, and 5Reilly Kennedy '15 played well at center forward. In the end, the girls showed great sportsmanship in their tie when they were really hoping to be victorious after their win over Taft. The Player of the Game
