In their second home game of the season on Saturday, the Bears had a sideline full of fans for a matchup against the Bobcats of Williston Northampton. In a later afternoon game than usual, play started out slow on both sides of the field, until at about twelve minutes into the first half when the Bobcats were able to sneak one into the Berkshire net to put them ahead by one.
The Bears were not satisfied with the one goal deficit, and continued to fight hard. Kylie Wilkes ’16 and Erin Dillon ’17 were a force up front for Berkshire, and with fifteen minutes left in the first half, Wilkes made a nice pass to Dillon for a breakaway, and Dillon, as has become a frequent occurrence, made a perfect pass to the back corner of the net to tie the score at one. The two were at it again with only a few minutes left in the first, but in reverse this time. Wilkes tallied her first goal of the season (a long time coming), with an assist from Dillon.
Going into the second half with a one goal lead, the Bears were determined to get another, but the Bobcats were a force to reckon with. The second half was clearly dominated by Williston, but countless saves and three quarter field punts by goalkeeper Lauren Henman ’14 kept the Bears ahead, as did strong defensive play from Alea Laigle ’17, Tara DeChellis ’17, and Catherine Xu ’14. The game ended with no score in the second half, and Berkshire earned the 2-1 win.
The Bears will play at home again on Wednesday at 3:00 against Loomis Chaffee.
