On Wednesday, Berkshire travelled down to Lakeville to test the mettle of their cross border rivals - the Bearcats of Hotchkiss. Unfortunately Hotchkiss was up to the task and answered the Bear’s intensity with equally tough play of their own. Hotchkiss’ relentless pressure from the get go proved effective as they notched the 1st goal of the game early in opening half. Berkshire didn’t shy away from the challenge. A few moments later Annie Hubbard ’16 battled for possession of the ball and dished it off to Erin Dillon ’17 who worked over a few of Bearcat defenders on the way to putting the ball to the back of the Hotchkiss net. With a minute left in the half, the crowd was looking at a 1-1 tie going into intermission. For the Bears, the half went a minute too long as the Bearcats were able to muster another goal with only seconds left on the clock.
In the 2nd half, Andrea Cass ’17 , Hadley Laskowski ‘14 and Emmi Graebner ’14 continued to work hard to keep the ball out of the Bear’s defensive zone. However, Hotchkiss never let their foot off of the gas and their hard work finally yielded results as they netted their 3rd goal of the game . The Bearcats were able to maintain their 2 goal cushion into the final buzzer - handing the Bears their 1st defeat of the season. Despite a 3-1 setback for Berkshire, the team showed great hustle and hard play from beginning to end.
Berkshire will play Williston at home on Saturday at 3:15.
