Soccer - Girls Junior Varsity
|Date:||September 21, 2013|
|Score:||Berkshire 2 - Taft 0|
With drizzling rain and slippery conditions, the Bears came out of the gate fast against the Taft Rhinos. In the 1st half, Emmi Graebner ’14, Hadley Laskowski ’14 and Emily Hubbard ’14 worked hard on defense to keep the ball out of our end. Taft made multiple runs at the Bear’s net, but Lauren Henman’s ’14 dynamic goalkeeping, kept the net clear for the initial 40 minutes of the contest. Offensive players Sarah Rogers ’14 and Kylie Wilkes ’16 made strikes to score, but it is Erin Dillon ’17 who finally muscled her way skillfully through Taft’s defense to open up the scoring for the Bear’s.
Entering the 2nd half with 1-0 lead, the Bears never let up. Neeka Daemi ’17 and goalkeeper Henman ’14 continued to anchor the Bear’s defense in the 2nd half as the team comfortably maintained their 1 goal cushion. 20 minutes into the 2nd stanza, the Bears offense caught fire again as Rogers ’14 crossed up the Rhino’s goalie with a hard shot from the right which found itself on the left side of the goal. While the final minutes of the game were not short of exciting moments, both defenses held the scoring in check and the final tally settled in at 2-0 in Berkshire’s favor.
The Bears next opponents will be at Ethel Walker School on Wednesday and at Kent School on Saturday.
