Soccer - Girls Junior Varsity
vs. Wilbraham Monson
|Date:||September 18, 2013|
|Score:||Berkshire - 0, Wilbraham - 0|
The Berkshire Bears battled hard in their first game of the season on Wednesday against the Wilbraham and Monson Titans. It was a back and forth game all day, with both teams working hard for all 70 minutes. On defense, Andrea Cass ’17, Hadley Laskowski ’14, and Emmi Graebner ’17 constantly hustled and won 50-50 balls. Emily Hubbard ’17 was a wall at sweeper, letting next to nothing past her. With impressive goalie skills by Lauren Henman ’17, anything that did get past Hubbard never found its way to the back of the Berkshire net.
Tied 0-0 going into the last five minutes of the game, forwards Sarah Rogers ’14 and Emily Walsh ’16 fought hard to set up offensive opportunities in front of the Titan’s goal. They eventually got the ball in to center forward Erin Dillon ’17 who controlled it nicely and knocked it back to set up a shot for midfielder Kylie Wilkes ’16. Wilkes took a good hard shot that just missed over the top of the goal. The Titans would get a few more looks at the Bears’ goal before the time ran out, but goalie Henman ’14 was determined to let nothing by her and had some amazing saves on the day. Although the score ended in a 0-0 tie, it felt like a win for the Bears’ first game of the season.
The Bears will play at nearby Indian Mountain School on Friday afternoon and then face Taft on Saturday in their home opener.
