It was a disappointing Wednesday afternoon on the Stewart pitch. Berkshire did not find the inspiration needed to win this game and struggled throughout the first half. We only experienced a few brief periods of resurgence that did not last. We did have the first goal opportunity of the match when Arthur Lewis '14 found himself alone in front of the Taft goal, but he could not put the ball inside the net. This was minute 15 and the game would become an uphill battle for the Bears until the end of the first half. Taft had many opportunities thwarted by Steven Halperin ’13 who showed great courage in front of the goal. The two goals received in this half were the result of two of the very few mistakes that our defensive line had during the match.
The second half showed a more efficient Berkshire squad able to contain and counter attack, but we still could not finish in the final third of the field. Hope presented itself 20 minutes into the period when Lewisonce again placed himself alone with the ball in front of the Taft goalie and sent it wide. The opponents could not score either, due to the tenacity of our players defending and pressuring all over the field. Henry Mainly ’15 was particularly efficient at stopping their strong left wing who never ran out of steam. We have fallen, but know it is time to get up and face the new challenges ahead of us.
