On Saturday, October 26th, Berkshire’s senior cross country runners competed for one final time on their home course. Seniors Francesca Ghi, Aly Hall, and Julia Slyer undoubtedly sensed the importance of this day because each of them ran a home course PR (personal record) for the season. In fact, some of them ran their personal best for their high school running career!
Berkshire ran the best race of the season even considering the winter like temperatures caused by 30 mph winds from the South. Gunnery’s Veronica Raleigh and Tess Elsinga brought tough competition to the Bears. But, Berkshire junior Sarah Kinney was still unbeatable as she was the first to cross the finish line for a course personal record. What most people don’t know is that Sarah is completely new to running and has already racked up four consecutive wins this season.
In second, was teammate and captain Julia Slyer ’14 for her best time on our home course. Olivia Silverman ’15, Aly Hall ‘14, captain Francesca Ghi ’14, and Dalia Banevicius ’17 were in 4th, 6th, 7th, and 8th place respectively giving the Bears a 10-38 win.
To celebrate, the team dashed off to a fabulous Halloween party hosted by the Kinney Family where the team bonded over burgers, basketball and a bonfire. But the competition didn’t stop there as the team took to pumpkin carving. The designs and outcomes were phenomenal! This party truly topped off what was an amazing day in Berkshire Cross Country.
In appreciation: For all their help in making this season (although not over) the best it could be, Berkshire Cross Country would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Kinney, Ms. Morgan, Mr. and Mrs. Slyer, Mr. and Mrs. Liddy, Gwynne Domashinski ’16, and of course, Coaches Lloyd, Plante, and Romano!
