The Bears traveled to Suffield on Saturday for their last regular season meet. The 65 degree November day was a bit unseasonable which caused some times to be unexpectedly slower. The boys raced against some tough competition from Suffield, Canterbury, Williston, Millbrook, and Salisbury. Berkshire won three out of the five matchups. In fact, when scored overall, The Bears were in an extremely tight race for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place as a team. When scoring as a dual meet, The Bears were able to win against Canterbury, Millbrook, and Salisbury.
Individually, Berkshire had some impressive finishes. Out of 110 runners, Derrick Burt ’16 came in sixth place while teammate Peter Giordano ’15 finished eighth overall. They have consistently been the first two Bears to cross the finish line all season. James Donovan ’15, Daniel Kim ’15, and Jack Scarafoni ’17 rounded out Berkshire’s top five. These three have shown tremendous speed and have been reliable scorers all season as well. Meanwhile the ever improving Nick Asaro ’14 and Captain Nate MacKenzie ’14 helped to displace the competition giving Berkshire an advantage in scoring.
Chris Bower ’15 had an impressive day, finishing faster than last week’s race. In addition, Matt Cortes ’17 had an exciting day by matching his personal record from three weeks ago. The improvement of the day came from Mike Melvin ’17 who ran for his career personal best. Way to go Bears!
