The Berkshire boys opened up their season at home against Avon Old Farms and Hotchkiss. On a gorgeous fall day, the Bears ran away with a decisive 23-34 win over their neighbors to the near-south Hotchkiss. Unfortunately, Avon edged out the Bears with an extremely close score of 26 to 31.
Derrick Burt ’16 was the first Bear to cross the finish line and was second overall out of eighty competitors. Close behind him was Peter Girodano ’15 who was third overall. Daniel Kim ’15, Jack Scarafoni ’17, James Donovan ’15, Nate MacKenzie ’14, and Nick Asaro ’14 rounded out the top seven for Berkshire.
Other notable finishes for the day included the following runners who were at least two minutes faster than their previous timed run on the course: Matt Cortes ’17, Sam Gatsos ’17, Ray Li ’16, Bao Nguyen ’14, Rad Savage ’15, and Ryan Zang.
The day was full of tough competition and several examples of athletes running with true heart. Whether they were healthy or injured, first or last, each finisher fought hard and left it all on the course. Without a doubt, it was a gorgeous day under the mountain.
